Do you enforce a dress code at NDHS?

We expect our students to dress in an appropriate manner at all times. Student dress may not present a health or a safety hazard, violate municipal, county, or state law, or present a potential disruption of the educational process. Generally, we do not allow students to wear the following:

  • Headwear inside the building (except when permitted on certain spirit days), including bandanas
  • Short-shorts, tank tops, halter-tops, tops that reveal the midriff or cleavage or any clothing that is inappropriately revealing (Shorts and skirts/dresses must pass the fingertip length test, and all pants must be worn at the waist.)
  • Sleeveless clothing (for both girls and boys)
  • Leggings without a shirt/sweatshirt that covers the entire mid-region of the body (Leggings or tights worn under shorts/skirts do not change their minimum length requirement.)
  • Holes in jeans and absolutely no holes above the knee
  • Any printing, graphics, or art on clothing that depicts sexual objects or subjects, vulgar language, drugs, alcohol, or racial prejudice
  • Chains or clothing with excessive metal objects that might damage school property, including wallet chains

Certain academic/vocational areas may require a more stringent dress code for safety purposes. We reserve the right to impose other reasonable dress requirements to address health and safety concerns at will.
